1.Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 tsp shawarma spice mix

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Juice of half a lemon
  • 1 tbsp plain yogurt
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • Salt to taste

For the yogurt sauce:

  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • 1 garlic clove (crushed)
  • Salt and lemon juice to taste

For the rice:

  • 1 cup basmati rice (washed and soaked)
  • 1.5 cups water
  • 1 tsp ghee or oil
  • Pinch of salt

Extras:

  • 2 pieces of Arabic bread,     cut and fried or toasted
  • Chopped parsley for garnish
  • Toasted pine nuts or  almonds for topping

 

2.How to Prepare

Cook the beef:

  1. In a bowl, mix all marinade  ingredients.
  2. Add the beef strips and mix well.
  3. Let it marinate for at least 30 minutes.
  4. Cook the beef in a hot pan until fully cooked and browned.

Cookt he rice:

  1. In a pot, add rice, water,     ghee or oil, and salt.
  2. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and cover.
  3. Let it cook until the rice is tender and fluffy.

Make the yogurt sauce:

  1. In a small bowl, mix yogurt  with tahini, garlic, lemon juice, and salt.
  2. Stir until smooth and  creamy.

Assemblethe dish:

  1. Place the fried or toasted  bread at the bottom of a serving dish.
  2. Add a layer of warm rice.
  3. Spread the cooked beef on top.
  4. Pour the yogurt sauce  generously over everything.
  5. Garnish with parsley and  toasted nuts.

 

3.Serving Ideas

  • Use individual bowls for personal portions.
  • Serve with a side of  cucumber-yogurt salad or tabbouleh.
  • Add a sprinkle of sumac or a drizzle of pomegranate molasses for extra flavor.
